Description

The territory of Sanabria, in the province of Zamora, has coexisted with the presence of the wolf for decades. This coexistence, although part of the region's cultural and natural landscape, is often compromised by conflicts arising from attacks on extensive livestock farming, particularly in the sheep sector, which is already in economic and social decline. The loss of animals during critical periods, such as lambing, can jeopardize the viability of family farms.

In addition, the pressure of mass tourism in the region is generating new tensions: conflicts with the presence of guard dogs, misunderstandings between visitors and neighbors, and even extreme situations such as the intentional poisoning of wild animals.

Faced with this situation, this project was created to provide a small, family-run sheep farm with the necessary tools to facilitate harmonious coexistence with wolves and tourism. To achieve this, preventive measures, improved land management and awareness-raising activities aimed at schoolchildren and the local community are proposed. The aim is also for this experience to serve as a replicable model in other territories facing similar problems, promoting an integrated vision that benefits both man and wildlife.
