Description

The various players in mountain environments are finding it difficult to coexist with each other and with the wild fauna whose territory they share. Rural areas are having to face up to new biodiversity challenges, such as the return of predators like the wolf. The socio-economic and psychological impacts are not negligible and must be supported by the various players in society. All the more so as the means of protecting the herds involve new constraints on a territory shared by different users. Active in dialogue for over 50 years, France Nature Environnement advocates cohabitation between mountain economic activities (such as pastoralism and tourism) and predators. After two years of successful work (number of people reached, loyalty and commitment of the volunteers involved, dialogue with partners), the renewal of the project will enable us to step up our efforts to raise awareness among mountain users and the general public of the correct behaviour to adopt when faced with a herd guarded by one or more guard dogs, in order to reduce conflict situations. These grassroots initiatives are consistent with and complementary to similar initiatives run by parks, local authorities and other organisations.
