Description
The region of Valencia de Alcántara is facing a serious conflict between extensive livestock farming and wildlife, related to the spread of Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) in dehesa ecosystems. This disease threatens both livestock viability and the conservation of emblematic species such as the Iberian lynx. In the absence of a specific governance framework, the project proposes the creation of a Network of Custodied Dehesas as an instrument of cooperation between local stakeholders (farmers, hunters, scientists, conservationists and administrations) to seek joint and sustainable solutions.
